Melanie Mason, O.D.

Dr. Melanie Mason received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry in 2011 after completing her undergraduate work at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Mason completed a residency at UC Berkeley in Primary Care and Specialty Contact Lenses with an emphasis on urgent care diagnosis and management. She received her Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2013.

As an Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Mason returns to Berkeley one day a week to teach optometry students in a clinical setting. She has served on the Board of the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society since 2011 and has filled the role of President, Past-President, and Continuing Education Director. She has been instrumental in creating an optometry assistant program, recognized by the state of CA, that gives community members searching for a career the opportunity to be educated and certified as an optometry assistant. In 2013, Dr. Mason received the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties Young Optometrist of the Year.

As a doctor and a mom of a child who has vision problems, Dr. Mason is a huge advocate for children's vision. She is a volunteer for the InfantSee Program, which provides a free comprehensive eye exam for infants 6-12 months old.

Dr. Mason loves doing anything outdoors with her two children, Clara and Levi, and her husband, Daniel.
