Myopia Control & Specialty Lenses for Children and Teens

Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, often begins in childhood and can progress rapidly if left unmanaged. We offer safe, non-surgical treatments designed to slow the progression of myopia and support your child’s long-term eye health.

More Than Glasses: Why Early Myopia Care Is Important

Myopia causes distant objects to appear blurry. It often starts in school-aged children and can worsen each year as their eyes grow. Without treatment, this progression can lead to higher prescriptions and increased risk of vision-threatening eye conditions later in life, including:

  • Retinal detachment
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration

Traditional eyeglasses and contacts correct blurry vision, but they don’t slow the progression of myopia. That’s where myopia management comes in. We aim to keep your child’s prescription as stable as possible while protecting their long-term eye health.

Custom Plans That Fit Your Child’s Eyes & Life

Every child’s eyes are different, so we offer multiple options to manage myopia safely and effectively. Based on your child’s age, lifestyle, and prescription, we may recommend:

Ortho-K (Orthokeratology)

Worn overnight, these specially designed contact lenses gently reshape the eye's surface during sleep. Your child removes them in the morning and enjoys clear vision all day without needing glasses or daytime contacts.

Benefits:

  • Great for active kids and athletes
  • Eliminates the need to wear correction during the day
  • FDA-approved for children

MiSight® Daily Contact Lenses

These soft, daily disposable lenses are the first FDA-approved contacts specifically for slowing myopia progression in children. They’re easy to use, comfortable, and clinically proven to make a difference.

Benefits:

  • Designed for ages 8–12
  • Simple daily routine
  • No cleaning or storage required

Atropine Eye Drops

In certain cases, ophthalmologists can use low-dose atropine drops to help slow myopia progression. These drops are typically part of a broader care plan, most effective for children not yet ready for contact lenses.

Note: We’ll discuss whether atropine is a good fit during your child’s consultation.
